Thank you very much Sanghiya Post for the news/article I received via Rajendra Khas. As a life-long student of History of the World and the Migration of Tribes around the world I discovered my great, great ancestors were the Khas Tribe who had migrated from West Asia almost by Europe and travelled via Persia(now Iran), Mesopotamia (now Iraq) and into what are now Afghanistan and Pakistan and India. Another wave of Khas came via Central Asia and Shambhala and Tibet via Garwal and Kumaon Himalayan foorhills-now Himachal Pradesh and Uttarkand into the basin of Karnali River. Initially they were not Hindus but were converted into Khasatriya. Then 2 types of Chhetri which name evolved from Kshatriya. The One who were Janai and refrained from Alcohol consumption were regarded as “Proper” Chhetri and those who did not or not allowed to wear Janai and indulged on Alcohol were Matwali Chhetri. A certain tribes of Mongolian origin was given the privilege of using clan name–in West Nepal. It is the arrival and interventions of Raja Prithivi Narayan Shah actuall put the Janai wearing Chhetri in prominence but not all Chhetri; the Kanwar and then Rana–Thapa Chhetri made it up. As for the Tihar rituals the Khas can claim as the initiators. But the Limbu’s also had some similar tradition in East Nepal. In Woking members of diverse ethnicities of Nepal celebrated Tihar. As I grew up from baby to the age of 22 in Rai/Limbu paltan/battalion I remember all of us doing Deusi and Bhailo. Gurkha regiments and the camps we lived in were the Microcosom of Nepal. Woking Nepali SAMAJ–Woking Nepalese Community Service do our best to bring together all Nepalese living in Woking and celebrate our cultural festivities. I tell Non-Nepali although our country is poor we Nepalese are richest in the Diversities of customs, costumes, beliefs/religions, food, jewelleries, languages/dialects and ethnicities as per our ancestral DNA. My roles are as an Adviser and Public Relation Officer for Nepali Samaj Woking and Teaching Assistant for Nepalese elders learning English language. I promote an inclusive Nepalese Society. I am also the Vice-Chairman of Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum and first Nepali in UK as the member of Independent Advisory Group to Police Force– as a Nepali representative. I am in the face book as Rajendra Chhetri.
